Formiga: Demetrious Johnson ‘still has big challenges at flyweight’

Jussier Formiga feels like it’s his turn to fight Demetrious Johnson for the UFC flyweight title. UFC flyweight contender Jussier Formiga believes the time has come for his title shot.
As the Brazilian shared with Combate, he has finished his last two opponents and wants champion Demetrious Johnson to give him an opportunity and forget all about a potential super fight against bantamweight champion, T.J. Dillashaw.
“Here’s my message to Demetrious Johnson,” Formiga said. “He should stop eyeballing the bantamweight division and should look at his own division. He has defeated many opponents, but he still has big challenges at flyweight.
“He says he wants T.J. [Dillashaw] and that’s interesting for the business, it’s pure money. A true fight would be against a flyweight challenger.”
Jussier Formiga has finished both Ulka Sasaki and Ben Nguyen via rear-naked choke in his last two outings and hasn’t lost since a March 2017 decision vs. former flyweight title challenger, Ray Borg. In fact, all of Formiga’s UFC were to former title challengers, in John Dodson, Joseph Benavidez, Henry Cejudo and the aforementioned Borg.
A potential showdown between Johnson and Dillashaw could take place at UFC 226: Miocic vs. Cormier in July.
