Tyron Woodley: I’m betting on Conor McGregor to beat Floyd Mayweather

Tyron Woodley is willing to put money on Conor McGregor against Floyd Mayweather. Tyron Woodley, who has been trying to get a bout against Conor McGregor in the past, has recently said that he is willing to put money on the two-division UFC champion on his upcoming bout against Floyd Mayweather.
“I’ll be honest, me and Conor ain’t really see eye to eye on a lot of things. At the end of the day I still want to scrap him, but I’m betting on Conor,” Woodley said on his The Morning Wood Show podcast. “You know why? I bet a grand, I win 6,500 bucks. I bet 2 grand, 13 grand. It’s freaking combat sports. Anybody got a chance at all times, so I’m willing to lose for the chance to win because that’s crazy that somebody that is that big of a underdog.
“Like on paper, you and I can see how and why. Who knows how it might go? I might be able to bet 100 bucks to win 1000. He might be plus 1000 at the end of the day when people really start putting their analytical hats on this fight and style match up.”
Woodley did make it clear that he doesn’t think Floyd loses, but he says the betting odds are just too good to pass up.
“I don’t know. I don’t think he’s going to win, but if he proves me wrong, at least I can cash in on it.”
Current odds have Mayweather as a -550 favorite to win over McGregor. While you can still get a decent amount if Conor wins, it is interesting that he’s actually not a very big underdog compared to Mayweather’s other fights.
Mayweather was -3000 against Andre Berto. If that’s not enough, other talented champs such as Miguel Cotto, Marcos Maidana, and Robert Guerrero were all bigger underdogs than a 0-0 boxer in McGregor as well.
So to put things into perspective, even if Conor eventually jumps to +1000 like Woodley speculates, would it still really be a “crazy” number that people shouldn’t pass on? It still wouldn’t even come close to how big an underdog Berto was, and many would even consider Floyd to be a steal at the current odds of -550.
If the press tour starts and McGregor gets on that mic to outwit and insult Mayweather, there’s a good chance that more people will get hyped and start betting on him to make the odds even closer than this.
Speaking of Berto, who is good friends with Conor, he spoke about the fight to say that while anything can happen, “we all couldn’t catch him”. He says if McGregor does, “he’s the president of the world!”
